Hit Parade: Sarmiento Pops 5 Hits
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Tom Sarmiento, it came around today.

The 21-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Seaward Stadium to pace the 13-4 San Diego Destroyers victory over the Montreal Harfangs.

Montreal skipper Brendan Henry told reporters in the press room that "Sarmiento deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Sarmiento hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Tom Sarmiento hit a solo-shot off Cesar Lobatos in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 7th.

This season, Sarmiento is swinging the bat at a .309 pace. He has hit 12 home runs and scored 32 times, while driving in 29. His on-base percentage is .364 and he has played in 42 games.
