Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Metropolitanos
The Havana Metropolitanos topped the St. Louis Gaedels, 7-6, in Eastern Conference action at Estadio Latinoamericano. The game was highlighted by the performance of Havana first baseman Homer Hanes. The winner was Havana reliever Victor Balaguer, now 4-3. The loser was Albert van Dongen. The second-place Metropolitanos are 52-57.

Paul Nelligan was the walk-off hero for Havana. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Metropolitanos catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"Was I getting worried?" said Metropolitanos manager Kevin Mayerhofer. "Nope." Then he added, with a wink, "There was never a doubt in my mind."
