The inspired effort of San Francisco first baseman Felix Perez was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the Minneapolis Vikings. Perez was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Phil Payne, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. The Vikings, at 20-15, lead by one game in their division.
The Vikings were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 33-year old left fielder Paul Pagac landed a big blow. He turned a 1-0 fastball from Hector Jimenez into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Minneapolis Grounds denizens into a frenzy and sent the Vikings home with a thrilling 7-6 win.
"The fans went nuts at the end," Pagac said.
