Winterfeld Excels, But Spectres Falter
The Washington Senators spoiled a good performance by Philadelphia designated hitter Bobby Winterfeld, bumping off Philadelphia, 12-9, at Sony Field at Philadelphia. Winterfeld was 3-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Washington reliever Rafael Morales picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Miguel Romero took the loss. Washington is now 16-17. Philadelphia is 12-22.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Eddie Leahy came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Philadelphia pitcher Miguel Romero, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 8-7.

"It feels good to get this one," Leahy told the Washington Observer.
