San Francisco Friars starter Doug Lovelace pitched a strong game against the Portland Dragons at Staples Field, leading the Friars to victory, 6-3. San Francisco, now 21-11, has played well in the early going.

Edilse Gavilan had a big 3-run home run for the Friars in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a cutter from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Yuuya Usui and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Friars on top, 6-0.

After the game, San Francisco manager Jeremy Cooan applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
