Phantoms Handed 7-5 Loss by Los Angeles
|
The Los Angeles Stars defeated the Chicago Phantoms, 7-5, in part because of right fielder Chris Brankin. Brankin went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Stars. Mike Merdinger went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the WC in strikeouts with 46, struck out 8 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 2-4 this season. Adam Mimnaugh recorded his 6th save for Los Angeles.
Rich Bice hit a run-scoring triple off Dylan Cisar in the bottom of the third, which put the Stars in front, 1-0. Bice had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 4.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Bice told the Los Angeles Times.
With the win, Los Angeles improves its record to 13-18.
