Ernesto Alvarez was in top form in a tight contest between Phoenix and Tucson. The Thunderbirds right-hander helped his team beat the Toros, 1-0. Alvarez, now 1-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Earning his 4th save of the year was Andy Miao.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Billy Morf? The Phoenix right fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put the Thunderbirds on top, 1-0. For the game, Morf had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Morf said.
The loss drops the Toros to 11-18.
