Vikings Best Thunderbirds in Pitching Duel
|
The Minneapolis Vikings claimed a close win over the Phoenix Thunderbirds, due in large part to Bertrand Ivory. The Minneapolis right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. Ivory, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. Johnny Wickwire was credited with the save for Minneapolis, his 8th of the season.
The Vikings got a big at-bat from center fielder Durán Durán. For the game, Durán was 1 for 3 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Minneapolis a 2-1 lead.
"Bertrand throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan.
Phoenix is 16-13 after the defeat.
