Dragons Earn 4-1 Road Win Over Denver
|
The Portland Dragons downed the Denver Glaciers, 4-1, at Mountain Dew Park. Stellar pitching by Tsunesaburo Kai had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the WC in quality starts with 4, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 7.2 innings, Kai surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Picking up his 1st save was 38-year old right-handed pitcher Nate Daniels.
The Dragons got a gift in the top of the seventh inning, when they were leading 1-0. With two out and a runner on 3rd, Tadashi Shimizu reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-0, Portland.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter. "It's usually not just one thing."
The Dragons have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 10th win in 29 games.
