The Tucson Toros turned back the San Francisco Friars, 5-4, at Aetna Stadium. Mario Murillo, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Luis Jimenez, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. The loss lowers the San Francisco record to 1-3.

The decisive blow was delivered by Miguel Cardozo in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off former first round draft pick Doug Lovelace to win the game for Tucson. The home crowd went nuts.

"The ending was a real humdinger," Cardozo told reporters after the game.
