The Santiago Avispas defeated the Portland Dragons, 5-3. Right Fielder Mayumi Watanabe deserved a large share of the credit. Watanabe went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Avispas. Beau Eschmann, who finished 2nd in the EC in strikeouts with 232 last year, was the winner. He's now 3-2. The loser was Yahya Kanoro. The win puts Santiago at 13-12.

With Santiago leading 3-1 in the top of the fourth, Watanabe hit a 2-run single off Portland hurler Yahya Kanoro. It was the 10th hit of the season for Watanabe and put his team ahead, 5-1.

"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Watanabe told the Santiago Daily.
