Glaciers Beat Visiting Avispas, 7-5
|
The Denver Glaciers defeated the Santiago Avispas, 7-5, at Mountain Dew Park. Brian Wooten, who finished 4th in the WC in batting average with .312 in 2078, was a standout performer for Denver. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Dryden Ice was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. The victory makes Denver 14-11, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2080.
Ko Kuroda had a big 2-run home run for the Glaciers in the bottom of the first inning. With Denver leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a cutter from 30-year old left-handed pitcher Volk Miller and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Glaciers on top, 4-0.
"I still think this team can play even better," Kuroda told the Denver Times.
