Athletics Come Back Late to Top Wolves, 5-2
|
Starting pitcher Gerald Tanton fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Kansas City Athletics stymie the Vancouver Wolves, 5-2. In 7.1 innings, Tanton surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Elijah Yates, who finished 5th in the WC in wins with 14 in 2081, earned the save for Kansas City.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ryan Clifford? The 26-year old shortstop Clifford stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Kansas City up, 5-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Tanton said.
Kansas City goes to 17-8.
