Avispas Drop 5-3 Decision
|
Santiago shortstop Luis Valera had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Valera went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice, even as Brooklyn beat the Avispas, 5-3. Picking up the win was Kurt Bozek. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The left--hander struck out 2 and walked 3. Jimmy Hsia was credited with the save for Brooklyn, his 3rd of the season.
Brooklyn left fielder Joe Bingham contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the first. With two down, he hit a curveball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 10th hit of the season and put the Browns ahead, 3-0.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Bingham.
With the win, Brooklyn improves its record to 12-11.
