The Portland Dragons beat the San Diego Destroyers, 5-3, at Seaward Stadium. The Dragons got a fine performance from first baseman Alex Guilzar, who went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. With the loss, San Diego is 15-9.
Portland needed the clutch hitting of Tadashi Shimizu to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dragons on top, 4-3. For the game, Shimizu had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter. "It's usually not just one thing."
