Cruz Ponce, who finished 2nd in the WC in wins with 17 last year, was locked in. The right-hander led the San Francisco Friars to a 6-3 win against the Las Vegas Aces at Western Coliseum. Ponce yielded 3 runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 3-2. Picking up the save was 37-year old right-handed pitcher Doug Lovelace.

San Francisco took a 5-3 lead on Leonilde Tigre's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Tigre hit in the top of the eighth, left Las Vegas pitcher Carl Rodda visibly frustrated.

"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Tigre. "But I have better dreams after a win."

The win gives San Francisco a record of 13-9.
