Whitehead Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Aurora's 12-4 victory over the Ames Lake Jackalopes, second baseman Cody Whitehead told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the RSL Double A-level is really something special."
The 21-year-old player earned his accolades today at Reds Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Jackalopes.
"His swing is getting there," said Reds skipper , who spoke glowingly of Whitehead after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Cody did that to perfection today."
Cody Whitehead hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jerry Reyes in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jerry Reyes in the 5th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.
So far this year Whitehead has 2 home runs and a .385 batting average.
