Los Angeles Loss Takes Shine Off Burquez Performance
|
Antonio Burquez had a good game, but he could not keep the Los Angeles Stars from falling, 6-5, to the Tucson Toros at Stars Ballpark. The Los Angeles left fielder slugged 3 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored three times in the loss. Dunieski Vazquez got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Jose Zavala earned the save for Tucson, his 3rd.
In the top of the third inning, the Toros grabbed the lead when Vern Berg rapped a two-out single. Tucson was trailing 2-1, when Berg hit a 2-run single off Jimmy Oyola to put his team in front, 3-2.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Berg.
The Toros, now 13-6, have played some good baseball in the early going.
