Vikings Stick Thunderbirds with 3-1 Loss
|
The Minneapolis Vikings had to overcome a fine performance from Phoenix pitcher Felipe Sanabria to grab a 3-1 win at Minneapolis Grounds. Sanabria allowed 2 runs over 6 innings. Alexei Urrutia went 5.1 innings for Minneapolis to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 run. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record improves to 1-0. Johnny Wickwire nailed down his 3rd save.
Freddy Luera went 1-4, while adding 2 RBI for Minneapolis. In the bottom of the fifth, with the teams deadlocked, 1-1, Luera delivered for the Vikings. His run-scoring ground out put Minneapolis on top, 2-1.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan said.
The Thunderbirds are now 7-13.
