The San Diego Destroyers took Portland pitcher Cursive DeMarco's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Portland Park. The final score had San Diego getting past the Dragons, 3-2. DeMarco went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 8. Nelson Capristo, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Joe Drum earned the save, his 1st, for the Destroyers.
Phil Heisey came through with a big-time hit for San Diego. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said San Diego manager Steve Alstadt.
At 13-7, the Destroyers have played well so far.
