Mike Merdinger pitched well, but his team, the Los Angeles Stars, still dropped a 4-2 decision to the Tucson Toros at Stars Ballpark. The winner in relief was Miguel Moquete. He is now 1-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Ignacio Noriega got the save, the 4th for him this season.

Tucson used a timely hit from Ken Steak to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Toros ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I felt good up there," said Steak. "I saw the ball well."

The Stars fall to 7-9 and continue their uneven start to the 2079 season.
