Angels Edge Las Vegas in Pitching Duel
|
Right-hander Danny Mathews mesmerized the Las Vegas Aces while leading the San Antonio Angels to a 1-0 victory. In 6 innings, Mathews surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Las Vegas is 10-6 after the loss.
The Aces had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Angels going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging first baseman Dominic Chander came to the plate. Chander hit a solo home run on a first pitch fastball from Las Vegas hurler R.J. Mendenhall. It was Chander's 5th home run of the year.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Chander.
