Thunderbirds Absorb 9-6 Loss at Ballpark of Missouri
|
The timely hitting of Jerry Gomez helped the Kansas City Athletics down the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 9-6. Gomez went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Athletics. Mark Curry earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 2-1. The Thunderbirds, at 4-10, have stumbled out of the gate.
Gomez had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, when he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Athletics went on to win.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Gomez. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
