Thunderbirds Win in Glorious Fashion, 6-5
The Phoenix Thunderbirds defeated the Los Angeles Stars, 6-5, in 12 innings. Joaquin Yanqui, who is tied for 10th in the WC in bases on balls with 8, played a big role. Yanqui was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Thunderbirds in the win. The winner in relief was John Intriago. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. Phoenix is now 6-7.

The decisive blow was delivered by Billy Morf in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 25-year old left-handed pitcher Herb Tumminia to win the game for Phoenix. The home crowd went nuts.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers. "But we decided not to take it."
