Gaedels Clipped, 4-2
|
Riding the 4-hit performance of the 27-year old right fielder Takeshi Esaki, the Washington Senators stopped the St. Louis Gaedels, 4-2. Axel Maisonneuve was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Albert van Dongen. Picking up the save was Alfonso Basulto, his 1st.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Danny Mrazek came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing St. Louis pitcher Albert van Dongen, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 3-2.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Mrazek said.
The Gaedels, 7-7, continue their so-so start to the 2080 season.
