Cincinnati Edges Philadelphia in Extra Innings
|
The Cincinnati Twins beat the Philadelphia Spectres, 6-5, at Cincinnati Grounds. The win was due in part to third baseman Jessie McMenemy, who went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Ernie Martinez got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Spectres, now 4-8, continue their poor start.
The decisive blow was delivered by Bobby Winterfeld in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a run-scoring double off 23-year old left-handed pitcher Fidel Flores to win the game for Cincinnati. The home crowd went nuts.
"It's a thrill to get that kind of win," McMenemy said.
