Thunderbirds Nudge Past Athletics, 3-2

Arturo Covarrubias, who finished 3rd in the WC in strikeouts with 196 in 2081, pitched well, but the Kansas City Athletics still fell short, losing, 3-2, to the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Ballpark of Missouri. Forbes Kopecky snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 1.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. Andy Miao picked up his 2nd save of the season.
Phoenix took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 2-2, when Graham Morgan hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Thunderbirds in front, 3-2.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle. "The effort was great."
The Thunderbirds have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 4th win in 12 games.
