The Los Angeles Stars had to overcome a big game from Tucson designated hitter Elisa Martinez to leave Aetna Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 5-3. Martinez belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Los Angeles reliever Billy Paul snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Don Young shouldered the loss. Miguel Torrez finished the game for Los Angeles and earned his 7th save.
Los Angeles used a timely hit from Casey Marko to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Stars ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Marko said his team "played with focus and determination."
The hot start continues for the defending champion Stars. This was their 9th win in 13 games.
