Glaciers Jolt Destroyers, 4-2, with Late Rally

The Denver Glaciers faced a tough opponent in San Diego pitcher Johnny Veenstra, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Mountain Dew Park by a final score of 4-2. Veenstra went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. Victor Garza came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Jeremy Lanham recorded his 1st save for Denver.
Ottawa, Canada-born Walter Gravel came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Glaciers trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Denver on top.
San Diego manager Steve Alstadt said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Denver, now 9-3, has gotten their season off to a good start.
