Cruz Ponce pitched a gem to lead San Francisco to victory over the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 2-1. San Francisco reliever David Platas was the winner. His record is now 1-0. John Intriago took the loss. The save went to Doug Lovelace, his 5th this season.
Tim Valencia came through with a big-time hit for San Francisco. The catcher smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Cruz did a good job of shutting their lineup down," said San Francisco manager Jeremy Cooan.
The 'W' lifts San Francisco's record to 65-45.
