Phantoms Rally For Late Win Over Friars
|
The Chicago Phantoms got a magnificent performance from pitcher Tommy Pepper, who stifled the San Francisco offense en route to a 3-1 Phantoms win at Staples Field. Simone Banatoni earned the save, his 3rd, for the Phantoms. San Francisco is 6-6 after the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Matt Smookler came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Rene Lazzarali, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 3-1.
"Nice, tidy little win," Smookler said after the game.
