Chander Homers Twice in 6-2 Angels Win
|
San Antonio designated hitter Dominic Chander contributed significantly to his team's 6-2 win over the Phoenix Thunderbirds. Chander, who finished 4th in the WC in home runs with 41 in 2070, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Angels. Danny Mathews picked up the win, improving his season record to 12-4. He struck out 4 in 7 innings. Getting the save was David Klontz, his 21st.
Al Anzaldua, who finished 2nd in the WC in batting average with .313 last year, took Phoenix hurler John Hersey deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Angels on top, 2-1. In all, Anzaldua had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Chander said his team "played with focus and determination."
San Antonio is now 61-46, Phoenix 51-56.
