Friars Pick Up 6-4 Win Against Tucson
|
The inspired effort of Tucson left fielder Tony Tinoco was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-4, to the San Francisco Friars. Tinoco was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Picking up the win was Cruz Ponce. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 3. The defeat makes Tucson 39-69.
Mario Murillo drew 1 walk for San Francisco. The slugging left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Charles Newton. It was his 31st RBI of the season.
"Being in first place now is good," said Murillo. "Being in first at the end of the season is better. That's our goal."
