The Kansas City Athletics beat the San Diego Destroyers, 12-7, at Ballpark of Missouri. The Athletics got a fine performance from left fielder Henry Sosa, who was 2-3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 5. Kansas City is now 60-46.

Sosa contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Kansas City in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 6-5, Sosa took a fastball from Roland Cooper and stroked the home run to right. His 25th home run of the season allowed the Athletics to leap in front, 9-6.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Joe Monagle.
