Avispas Lose to Washington, 7-1
|
Getting offensive support from Ruven Luevano, the Washington Senators topped the Santiago Avispas, 7-1. Luevano was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Senators. The winner in relief was Val Castro. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 3-3. The Senators sit in last place in the Eastern Conference Willis Briceno Division with a record of 41-65.
Takeshi Esaki had a big bases-clearing double for the Senators in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Washington leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Miguel Cordova and swatted a double to left. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Senators ahead, 5-1.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Esaki said.
