Las Vegas Collects 3-2 Win
|
The Las Vegas Aces knocked off the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 3-2, in Western Conference action at Western Coliseum. Las Vegas pitcher and Chicago, Illinois, native Arturo Covarrubias had an outstanding performance. The win belonged to Gerald Blackman in relief. His record improves to 7-4. Antonio Melgar took the loss for Phoenix. Las Vegas goes to 56-48, Phoenix to 50-54.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Aces had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the seventh, when center fielder Li-zhi Shao hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Antonio Melgar and made the score 2-1, Aces. Shao was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Shao after the game.
