The San Diego Destroyers topped the Minneapolis Vikings, 9-4, with center fielder Danny Mercadante playing a big role. Mercadante went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 3 runs for the Destroyers in the win. Masaru Uno, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. Don Zufelt had a big bases-clearing double for the Destroyers in the top of the sixth inning. With San Diego leading 5-2 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Ti-an Fang and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Destroyers ahead, 8-2.

Mercadante told the San Diego Chronicle: "Don't care what other people think. Danny knows who Danny is."
