The home crowd had a good time watching the Phoenix Thunderbirds and Alaska Kodiaks get after it.

With designated hitter Boyd Heath leading the charge, the Alaska Kodiaks defeated the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 9-3, at Tundradome. Heath, who is tied for 7th in the WC with a .388 on-base percentage, went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs. John Rochford got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.

Willie Penaloza's at-bat in the bottom of the second inning was a big one for Alaska. Coming to bat with one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and Alaska trailing 2-0, the catcher hit a run-scoring single.

"Solid performance from our side," said Kodiaks manager Alex King.

Alaska now sits at 56-41, while Phoenix falls to 56-39.
