Ryan Mena, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2078 draft, imposed his will on the Thunderbirds from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the left-hander spearheaded the 2-1 Portland triumph. Mena yielded 1 run over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-3. Young-pil Park notched his 1st save of the season.

The Dragons got a big at-bat from designated hitter Shigenobu Shimamoto. For the game, Shimamoto hit 2 home runs. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 20th home run of the season gave Portland a 2-1 lead.

"Ryan made the big pitches when he needed to," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter.

The third-place Dragons improved to 46-49.
