Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Chicago Phantoms and the Philadelphia Spectres. Chicago won it, 3-1. Chicago starter Tetsukazu Kaneda was in command. Simone Banatoni picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Bruce Roque, who is tied for 10th in the EC in holds with 7, was tagged with the loss. With the win, Chicago raised its record to 51-41.
Jin-young Choe drove in one run for Chicago. The 29-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Bruce Roque. It was his 34th RBI of the season.
"Tetsukazu was locating, throwing all of his pitches," said Chicago manager Sam J. "He did a heck of a job."
