Watkins Socks 2 Homers in 9-1 Win
|
The Tucson Toros topped the San Diego Destroyers, 9-1, with third baseman Heater Watkins playing a big role. Watkins belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Toros in the win. Dunieski Vazquez, who is tied for 3rd in the WC with a 2.57 ERA, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. By defeating San Diego, the third-place Toros improved to 43-48.
The Toros got a big hit from first baseman Migdônio Ervilhosa. Facing San Diego pitcher Si-dao Ci in the bottom of the eighth, Ervilhosa pounded a bases-clearing double to center. His 24th double of the season put the Toros ahead, 9-1.
"We were firing on all cylinders," said Toros manager Rick Barnes.
