Senators Drop Contest, 7-2, to Miami
|
Miami got a strong outing from Ivan Fernandez as the Cyclones defeated the Washington Senators, 7-2, at The ESPN Zone. Fernandez, now 7-4, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. The first-place Cyclones, at 56-34, now lead their division by 4½ games.
Jason Diaz had a key at-bat with two out in the top of the fifth for Miami. With the bases loaded and the Cyclones leading 4-2, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Cyclones manager Chris Stephan, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
