Destroyers Solve Metropolitanos, 5-4
|
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the San Diego Destroyers and Havana Metropolitanos.
The San Diego Destroyers picked up a win at Estadio Latinoamericano, knocking off the Havana Metropolitanos, 5-4. On the mound for San Diego was right-hander Richard Samayoa. He played a key role in the triumph. Samayoa, now 7-5, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs.
Vance Kitchen dealt the Metropolitanos a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and San Diego leading 3-2, Kitchen, who finished 3rd in the EC in batting average with .307 last year, hit a first pitch changeup for a 2-run single.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Kitchen said after the game.
San Diego now owns a record of 46-41.
