Friars Pin 3-1 Loss on Havana
|
San Francisco turned a fine outing from starter Bill Zamora into a victory over the Havana Metropolitanos at Estadio Latinoamericano. The final score was 3-1. Zamora, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Joe Drum closed out the game, earning his 9th save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Luis Callejas? The San Francisco designated hitter had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Friars on top, 3-0. For the game, Callejas had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Said Havana manager Kevin Mayerhofer: "They pitched the heck out of us."
The Friars are now 41-45, while the Metropolitanos fall to 51-34.
