Thunderbirds Bag 7-5 Win
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds weathered an outstanding game by San Diego designated hitter Asa Hornyak to topple the Destroyers, 7-5. Hornyak was 3-3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2. Ernesto Alvarez earned the win for Phoenix. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 4-4. Sumiki Kono earned save number 2 this season.
Phoenix used a timely hit from Billy Morf to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Thunderbirds ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"When there are games to be won, you win them," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
With this game in the books, Phoenix is 35-48, San Diego 41-44.
