Though he had a stellar game, John Fricks could not prevent his team, the Buffalo Rangers, from losing, 6-5, to the Portland (E) Lobster. Fricks went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Marco Buenrostro went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. The right-hander, who finished 5th in the EC in wins with 16 in 2073, struck out 5 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 3-1 this season. Kevin D'Addio got credit for the save for Portland (E). It was his 3rd of the year.

Portland (E) took a 6-4 lead on Luis Torrecilla's 2nd double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Torrecilla hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Buffalo pitcher Johnny Wickwire visibly frustrated.

"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Torrecilla told the Portland (E) Bulletin. "You win just by scoring more runs."

The first-place Rangers dropped to 44-39.
