Toros Win Nail-Biter
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Aetna Stadium. But 28-year old left fielder Nagateru Imada produced just enough offense to carry the Toros past the Minneapolis Vikings, 3-2. Imada went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Tucson reliever Luis Jimenez picked up the win, upping his record to 7-3. Phil Payne absorbed the loss. Tucson, now 39-44, holds down third place in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division.
The decisive blow was delivered by Ken Steak in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Phil Payne to win the game for Tucson. The home crowd went nuts.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Steak. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
