The Denver Glaciers got a good effort from starter Shane Shackelford in defeating the Portland Dragons at Mountain Dew Park. The final score was 5-0. Shackelford got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 6 innings. He allowed no runs. The defeat makes Portland 47-35.

Dennis Videaux had a big 3-run home run for the Glaciers in the bottom of the third inning. With Denver leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Contreras and punished it. The result was his 20th home run of the season, which put the Glaciers on top, 5-0.

"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said Denver manager Todd Bleess.
