Destroyers Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The San Diego Destroyers used a great performance from Ben Flint, who finished 4th in the WC in wins with 15 last year, to beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 2-1, at Seaward Stadium. Javy Regalado earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 5-3. The losing streak for Phoenix has now reached 4 games.
Cesar Valles was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk for San Diego. The 25-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Yoelbi Cabreira. It was his 27th walk of the season.
"Ben had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said San Diego manager Steve Alstadt.
