Los Angeles got a valiant performance from pitcher Jimmy Oyola, but it wasn't enough to beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds. Phoenix won the game, 2-1. Oyola threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. The win went to Miguel Soto in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Luis Toledo took the loss. The Thunderbirds have an impressive 50-29 record.

Phoenix used a timely hit from Bruce Gasca to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Thunderbirds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"That's baseball," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
