Toros Need Extra Frames to Get Past Athletics
The Tucson Toros faced a tough opponent in Kansas City pitcher Mayor Pardo, but found a way to pull out the victory at Ballpark of Missouri by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Pardo went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Tucson reliever Manny Carbonell picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Addy van Oostende absorbed the loss. Jose Zavala collected save number 1.

Tucson used the timely hitting of Geri Rengifo to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Toros on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Rengifo told reporters after the game.

Kansas City now is 2-6.
