Santiago Wins, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Santiago Avispas and the Miami Cyclones, 26-year old right-handed pitcher Buddy Verveer was the difference-maker. The Santiago right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win. Verveer got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs. With the win, the Avispas improved to 39-36.
The Avispas got a big at-bat from center fielder Hahn Eckert. For the game, Eckert went 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Santiago a 1-0 lead.
"Another day, another win. On to the next one," Eckert told the Santiago Daily News.
